Garnet Valley Spoils Marple Newtown's Homecoming

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA - It was a wet and dreary Homecoming night for Marple Newtown as their hot streak came to an end against Garnet Valley losing a heartbreaker by a 7-0 score. Both defenses played well but Garnet Valley was able to move the ball just enough to get the only score of the game.

The score came late in the first quarter with 2:09 remaining when Marcellus Irving had a 15-yard touchdown run that put Garnet Valley up 7-0 and it was the deciding factor of the game.

Marple did move the ball well on a few drives and were stopped on a key 4th down conversion inside Garnet Valley’s five yard line. This seemed to give Garnet Valley a momentum swing to close out the game.

It was a tough loss for Marple Newtown but nothing to hang their heads on because they are playing well and are still in the running for a District One Class AAA playoff spot. Marple looks to come back strong next week when they play Upper Darby on the road.
