Youth night crowd propels Tigers to victory

Courtesy of MNFB.com

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA - The stands at Harry Harvey Field were packed with elementary school students from all over the district, and the Tigers did not disappoint. Marple Newtown improved to 4-1 on the season with a 49-0 win over visiting Lower Merion.

Senior back Cimorrow Moat rushed for five scores, three of which came in the first quarter. Moat's first score was set-up by a big run by Senior Joey Pham.

After a Lower Merion turnover, Moat again found the end zone from 30 years with just under 7 minutes left in the first quarter. Lower Merion was again struck by the turnover bug, and the Tigers again answered with another Moat rushing touchdown.

Early in the second quarter Moat broke a 49-yard run open for a score to put the Tigers ahead 28-0. Anthony Rosiano added a 30-yard score, and Moat again scored to put the home team ahead 42-0 at the half.

Lower Merion sustained a drive that ate up the entire third quarter, but the Tigers defense held. On fourth and short, the Aces attempted to pick up the first down on the ground, but Dan Gerrity blasted into the backfield to hold Lower Merion short. The Tigers took over, pushing the ball upfield on runs by Mike White and Austin DiFabio. Quarterback Tommy Davis scored his first career touchdown on a 2-yard sneak to cap the drive.

The Tigers will next visit Harriton on Thursday evening at 7 PM.
